Damp Ceiling & Wall Prevention & Treatmen - South London
The damp can also be as a result of water ingress coming in through the brickwork of an external walls, which can result from cracked or damaged render on the outer walls where the pointing (joints in between bricks) has failed.
In situations such as these the walls need to be treated with specialist damp proofing agents and then rendered with an additional damp proof course as part of the render coating. Following that the walls will be ready to be plastered in a moisture free condition.
The extent to which the wall or ceiling will need to be replaced before a Re-skim will depend on the size of damp patches.
For damp areas limited in size the section, these can be cut from dry area of the ceiling and then replaced with plasterboard prior a Re-skim. However, for larger areas of damp, it is preferable to replace the entire ceiling to make sure damp does come through to the newly plastered ceiling.
As part of our damp treatment service when removing old plaster or ceilings we can (on request by the customer), set up a dust barrier. This allows the majority of the dust to be retained within the area of work. This serves to avoid the very fine traveling through other parts of the property in the South London area.
